Ruben Prieto Lopez
BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering
Role at Aarsleff:
Design Engineer for Aarsleff’s ground beams division.
Hi, Ruben. Where are you from and what were you doing before joining Aarsleff Ground Engineering?
I am a Civil Engineer from Spain who has lived and worked in the UK for the last four years. So far, I have been involved with the production of different structural precast concrete elements such as bridge beams and culverts as well as of architectural concrete including cladding and main structural elements for high profile residential projects.
What is your area of expertise?
My professional experience comprises the arenas of production, quality management and project coordination within the precast concrete industry.
How do you feel about joining a specialist ground engineering contractor?
I can’t wait to take on the design role in Aarsleff’s Ground Beams Division. It poses a new challenge to me and allows me to expand my knowledge in civil engineering and more specifically in precast concrete.
What has been your biggest achievement both personally and professionally?
Personally, moving from Spain to the UK and being able to successfully dive into the living and working habits of an English-speaking country is what I consider my biggest achievement. Professionally I have managed to ease the manufacturing process of geometrically complex precast concrete elements while working at ABM by exploiting the 3D capabilities of AutoCAD software, which was not the best tool for the job, but the only one available at the office.
What have been your favourite projects to work on prior to joining Aarsleff?
I really enjoyed working on bridge replacement projects for the Highways Agency and Network Rail such as the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements, where a specific possession date had to be met and there was little room for slippage. Also, working on projects of high visibility such as the full structure and cladding of the 251 building in London or the new access concourse, ticket hall and retail facilities of the Olympic Stadium also in London has been very rewarding.
