Sheet Piling for Somerdale Development in Bristol
Aarsleff Ground Engineering were contracted by Taylor Wimpey to install a sheet piled retaining wall for a drain outlet as part of the phase 2 works on Somerdale residential development in Keynsham, Bristol.
The development, which is on the site of the former Cadbury’s factory, will consist of 2-bedroom apartments, along with 3, 4 and 5-bedroom houses. As part of the development there will also be a 70-bed care home, commercial and retail properties, a new medical centre and a primary school, along with sustainable public space areas.
Before installing the piles, Aarsleff had to drive 19 No. sheet piles behind the drain to support the bank. This provided a stable platform that could withstand the bearing pressure of the crane, allowing it to carry out the main works.
For the project, Aarsleff installed 41 No. GU13N sheet piles to an average depth of 8m. Once installed, the piles were cut down and the area was filled with concrete to provide a smooth drainage run to the river’s edge.
Aarsleff Ground Engineering started works on site on the 13th August and had completed installing and finished on site by the end of the month.
