Aarsleff Ground Engineering were awarded the design and build ground engineering contract for a new supermarket, just outside Cromer, Norfolk.
The design included the installation of Soil Nails in rows to stabilise the excavated embankment prior to the fixing of a geogrid and face mesh to promote plant growth. The Soil Nails were the self-drilling type incorporating a sacrificial drill bit.
The Soil Nails were drilled into the varying strata using cement grout as a flushing medium. Once the Soil Nail was drilling to depth, the drill rig simply disconnected from the soil nail leaving it in place. The Soil Nailing contract was carried out in the depths of winter, and despite bad weather conditions, the work was completed within timescale.
Soil Nailing can be used for many applications i.e. repairing old walls, bridges, underpinning structures and for motorway widening projects as well as creating space for buildings.Download Case Study
