Aarsleff Ground Engineering was awarded the piling contract on behalf of the main contractor Costain Ltd for a new temporary precast concrete batching plant and manufacturing facility in development with the construction of the Hinkley Point C power station. The new facility at Avonmouth will make concrete segments (estimated 38,000 segments) that will form the water intake tunnels for the new power station. The segments would be made and stored at the facility, then transported to the construction site mainly by road.
With up to 4 Junttan rigs on site, Aarsleff installed 2200 No. driven precast concrete piles of 250-350mm in section.
