Piling for Amazon’s new warehouse in Avonmouth
Aarsleff Ground Engineering were awarded the piling contract for retail giant Amazon, for the construction of its new mega shed distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol.
This is the first build that Amazon has self-developed and it takes the retailer’s number of UK fulfilment centres to 16. The new warehouse, based at Severn Beach, which is 17 miles north-west of Bristol in West England, will also create more than 1,000 jobs in the region. Stefano Perego, Amazon’s director of UK customer fulfilment, said: “There are several factors we consider when deciding on where to place a new fulfilment centre, and Bristol offers fantastic infrastructure and talented local people who we look forward to joining the Amazon team.”
The project, awarded by ISG Retail on behalf of main client Amazon, commenced late July 2017 and saw Aarsleff install over 5000 No precast piles to support the 2.2 sq ft. building and slab loads of the completed structure.
In the same area, Aarsleff has since completed the piling works for a new Range centre and Lidl.Download Case Study
