DRIVING PRECAST CONCRETE PILES FOR CLASSROOM EXTENSION

Project Description

Data 12no. 200mm square precast concrete piles, supplied 8m lengths
Main Contractor E.N. Suiter and Sons Ltd
Equipment Banut 300 Midi-rig
Construction period 5th August – 6th August 2019

Aarsleff Ground Engineering have recently completed the driven
precast piling works for a classroom extension at Highgate
School in Kings Lynn. The infant school required 12no. piles
for the extension, of which E.N. Suiter and Sons Ltd awarded
Aarsleff the contract to install the piles.

The site of the extension, located in the playground area at the
school, had a small footprint area and restricted access. Aarsleff
deployed their bespoke Banut 300 midi-rig for the job, which has
a lower bearing pressure and a compact design compared to
normal piling rigs. This provided good manoeuvrability and safe
installation of the piles on site.

On completion of the works, E.N. Suiter’s Contracts Manager
Quinton Mitchell commented saying,

“All members of Aarsleff’s piling team were faultless. It was
a very difficult little job, but with the assistance and full
cooperation of Aarsleff’s team the piles went in without a hitch.”
Aarsleff’s Graduate Engineer, Sam Riley, who oversaw Aarsleff’s
works said,

“By utilising our Banut 300 piling rig, we were able to overcome
the issues with restricted access and the small area of the site.
The compact design and safety features of the Banut allowed for
our operatives to work safely on the project. Overall it has been
great to work with E.N. Suiter again after working with them at
Spalding Wygate Park Academy earlier in the year.”

Aarsleff were able to deploy, install and demobilise from site
within the two day schedule
