AARSLEFF CREATES VALUE IN SMALL SCALE COMMERCIAL PILING THROUGH EFFICIENCY AND A FOCUS ON OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Project Description
SCOPE OF WORKS: 31 250sqmm driven precast concrete piles
CLIENT: SCF Petrol Forecourts
CONTRACT: Design and build
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD: October 2023
The South West is a busy area of work for Aarsleff Ground Engineering. With increasing investment in commercial infrastructure in and around Avonmouth and the Severn estuary in general, Aarsleff’s quick, efficient, and value-added approach to driven precast concrete piling has been in high demand to found the large warehouses and commercial sheds.
However, large projects are not the only place Aarsleff’s focus on operational excellence creates value. Down the river from Avonmouth is the growing commercial hub at Bridgwater, where SCF Petrol Forecourts Ltd are developing a new service station area and they contacted Aarsleff to enquire about driven precast concrete piling to form the foundations for a new Costa Coffee.
In total, they needed 31 piles which Aarsleff installed over 3 working days. All 250mmsq at 17 metres, but 12 of the piles had specific design requirements to ensure sufficient skin friction. They needed to reach a specific depth, which would enable the piles to function effectively under the designed tensile load. This was further reinforced by the use of type 6 reinforcement for these 12 piles, to ensure design parameters were met and performance was guaranteed.
