OUR LARGEST PILING PROJECT COMPLETED IN THE LAST 10 YEARS

Project Description

SCOPE OF WORKS 14,558 Precast Piles

CONTRACTOR Bowmer and Kirkland

EQUIPMENT 8 x Junttan PM20/22, 14,558 Precast Piles

CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 14 weeks

Aarsleff were working for Bowmer and Kirkland constructing a large scale piling job for commercial sheds in the North-East of England. This is the largest piling job Aarsleff have completed in the last 10 years. This job consisted of just under 15,000 precast piles and 8 Junttan PM20/22 Rigs. The precast reinforced concrete piles used by Aarsleff are manufactured by sister company Centrum Pile Ltd at their state-of-the-art facility at Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Challenges
Aarsleff’s main challenge on site was the logistics.
With 8 piling rigs and over 14,000 piles to be installed
in a tender programme of 18 weeks, our team’s focus
had to be on schedule and logistics.

Solution
The Project Delivery Team maintained high standards
of communication both with the client and between
project management and site in order to progress
forward. Hard work put in throughout by the site
team meant that despite delays, timelines created at
the tender stage were met and even surpassed.

Casting is a fully automatic process using bespoke
machines designed by Centrum specifically for pile
production with selfcompacting concrete which does
not require vibration.

Technical Information
• 12,766no. 250mm T4 precast reinforced concrete piles
• 1,436no. 250mm T6 precast reinforced concrete piles
• 356no. 300mm T8 precast reinforced concrete piles

Our Parth Patel, Major Projects Manager, commented “This
project was a challenging logistics operation from start to
end. The highlight for me was Aarsleff achieving practical
completion 4 weeks ahead of programme – this was mainly
due to the hard work and excellentproduction from the site
team.”

Bower and Kirkland commented “Aarsleff’s performance on
this project has been excellent and greatly appreciated by
all at B&K. We look forward to working with you all in the
future.”
