We know how important robust systems are to achieving sustainability accreditations for your projects, which is why we’re proud to be able to offer a third party verified EPD for our precast concrete piles. We also embed rigorous data validation processes and are delighted to be verified to ISO 14064-1 as a part of Achilles’ Carbon Reduce programme, which feeds into our Carbon Reduction Plan, in line with PPNo6/21.

Aarsleff Ground Engineering Ltd and Centrum Pile Limited are committed to accountability on sustainability and understand that in the current world climate, there can be no more ‘business as usual’. We want to actively further sustainable development, adding value into the communities in which we operate and creating opportunities for all people. Operating within the construction and built environment sector, we are aware of the responsibility we have to innovate in order to reduce emissions and our overall negative impact on the world around us.

So what are we doing? Our current approach is outlined below:

  1. Based off our baseline year report, we’re reporting yearly against our goals and targets in order to track tangible change
  2. We’ve created a detailed approach plan with focused and trackable targets with areas of focus identified through stakeholder-based materiality engagement and aligned with the UN’s global Sustainable Development Goals
  3. We’re dedicating time and resource to embedding sustainability into our company culture, through both external and internal training, to ensure a company-wide understanding of our ability to enact change

Targets on Climate Impact

AarWorld

  1. Transition all company cars to hybrid or electric by 2025*
  2. Improve energy usage within the Centrum factory using new technology
  3. Offer CO2 data for projects at tender stage by October 2024
  4. Reduce timber waste by 80% by 2025
  5. Reduce all waste generated by 40% by 2030
  6. Deliver a Full Green Supply Chain initiative by 2025
  7. Full value-engineering reporting scheme established by 2025

*we will also continue to monitor the viability of switching the van fleet to
electric – currently the commercial scopes available and the charging
infrastructure are not strong enough for us to commit to a switch

We’re delighted to have achieved the below in 2023:

  • Solar panels installed at our Newark headquarters with enough capacity to power 90% 0f our factory and office needs
  • A reduction in timber waste of 52% against our 2020-21 baseline

Targets on Employee Satisfaction

  1. Establish a full equality, diversity, and inclusion roadmap by 2025
  2. Maintain or improve on our Lost Time Accident Frequency Rate
  3. Establish annual employee satisfaction survey and process with key actions by 2025

We’re delighted to have achieved the below in 2023:

  • 97% of the workforce received unconscious bias training
  • 96% of the workforce received sustainability training
  • 98% of the workforce received health and wellbeing training

Targets on Societal Impact

AarImpact

  1. 7% of workforce to be enrolled on accredited training programmes by 2025 (assured by the 5% Club) – 5.41% in 2023
  2. Offer employees 2 paid volunteering days in 2024
  3. Deliver 3 skills/learning workshops within the community through our YMCA partnership each quarter by 2025
