DRIVING OF PRECAST PILES FOR WATER TREATMENT STORM TANKS
Project Description
SCOPE OF WORKS 1500 No. 250mm square precast concrete
CLIENT United Utilities
EQUIPMENT Banut 700, Junttan PM20L
CONTRACTOR J N / Mott Macdonald Bentley
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD August 2016 – October 2016
Contractor JN Bentley awarded Aarsleff Ground Engineering the
contract to supply, handle, pitch and install precast concrete
piles, which will provide the foundation support to new storm
tanks for the Preston Waste Water Treatment Works (wwTw)
facility.
Aarsleff installed 1500no 250mm square driven precast concrete
piles installed to depths between 19m-21m below ground level
to support the new storm tanks. Piling in accordance with “ICE
Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls”, 2007, as
produced by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Aarsleff carried out initial preliminary trial piling and probing to
the site including static load tests, dynamic load test and tension
load tests.
Employing Aarsleff’s Banut 700 and Junttan PM20L, the 2 rigs
worked simultaneously for the majority of works on site. We
maintained a fluid sequence during the piling works where
we catered for the clients build sequence by working in 15m
channels – allowing sectional concrete pour to take place.
Although this was a challenging sequence to work with due
to the limited operational space, Aarsleff coordinated well with
JN Bentley Site Management to successfully install the piling
foundations
