Cleethorpes Promenade Boathouse

CREATING A SUSPENDED DECK FOR THE BOATHOUSE

Project Description

SCOPE OF WORKS CHS bearing piles and in-situ concrete works to create safe haven, bank seat, boathouse and slipway
CLIENT Tolent Construction
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 2 May – September 2022

Aarsleff are working for Tolent Construction, with the end client being the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the largest charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

The project is an expansion of the current facilities on the promenade as the crews currently have little room to dry off and change following rescue missions and the new facilities will also provide a renewed jetty into the water in order to strengthen the team’s ability to continue their essential work. Aarsleff’s work is taking place over 14 weeks and the project value is currently at £1.1 million.

The marine environment is not new to Aarsleff UK, but always provides its challenges. Working hours are restricted to a maximum of 7 hours and a minimum of 5 working hours per shift due to the tide coming right up to

the promenade, and this also means that careful consideration around plant movements is also essential to success here.

This part of the project was the construction of main suspended deck boathouse, which included the 24nr 18m long 711dia CHS bearing piles, in-situ concrete and gravel infill to CHS piles – 35m3 and installation of Precast Concrete T-Beams – 18 no. up to 21t per unit. It also included in-situ reinforced concrete caps to CHS piles – 12m3, high strength grout to T-Beams – 2m3. As well as installation of Precast Concrete Floor Planks – 112 no.up to 7t per unit and in-situ grouting to Floor Planks – 720 lin.m.

This is also the first project Civils Operations Manager, Matt Brannan, has headed up since his commencement at Aarsleff. He is working in tandem with Jim Wilson, Operations Manager, in order to ensure all facets of the project run smoothly and the new elements of Aarsleff’s work appear as seamless to our client as our seasoned offerings.

Case Study

Tidal working is always a logistically challenging environment which we are managing with highly detailed programming and planning. The project is currently on programme and our client, Tolent, are very happy with our approach and execution of the works.
