Empowering People
In December 2019, former SAS soldier and instructor to the recruits in Channel 4’s SAS Who Dares Wins, Mark “Billy” Billingham delivered an inspirational talk on teamwork to Aarsleff Ground Engineering’s staff members at their head office in Newark, Nottinghamshire. In 2010, Mark was deployed to Haiti to help after an earthquake destroyed the country, where an estimated three million people were affected and over 100,000 lives were lost. He lived and worked in Haiti for 3 years in an effort to help rebuild the country and has since become an ambassador to the charity, REBUILD globally, helping to provide education and job training to the most vulnerable.
“I am a proud ambassador to RG because it is transparent, ethical and changing lives. They are always evolving and going that little bit further to make an impact in the lives of the kids in our programs. It’s an honour to be a part of it.”

Aarsleff Ground Engineering’s donation will support REBUILD globally’s 9th grade class of students for four years until their graduation from high school.
Education is a key component to fighting poverty, with students unable to complete the critical first steps in life due to not being able to afford to go to school. Through the charities ‘Elèv Program’ (Elèv means education in the Kreyol language), they have been able to educate more than 300 students over 15,000 hours of teaching through fully funded scholarships, bi-weekly tutoring and job training on their ‘Lavi Job Training Program’.
Along with education and training, REBUILD globally also carries out development work to make a lasting impact on the communities in Haiti, through investment of local businesses and infrastructure to helping refugees get citizenship papers.
Aarsleff’s Managing Director Kevin Hague [link to Kevin] added to the announcement saying,
“We are delighted to be supporting REBUILD globally with this 4-year sponsorship, enabling 3 REBUILD globally students’ education until they graduate high school. We look forward to working more with the charitable trust and discovering other ways to help add value to their projects across Haiti, whether its assisting in design and engineering, or delivering learning for the kids.”
REBUILD CEO and Founder Julie Colombino felt heartened after visiting Aarsleff’s Head Office and learning about Aarsleff’s core values and environmental initiatives. Appreciating the need for establishing corporate partnerships with those companies that share similar ethos and philosophy, the relationship is a strong one.
