Aarsleff Ground Engineering support Equinox, raising valuable money for ‘Cancer Research UK’ and ‘Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support’.
Throughout May, June and July, Aarsleff Ground Engineering have chosen to support Equinox, a charity created by Sarah and Paul Mullen from Bessacarr, Doncaster.
Two years ago, Aarsleff Ground Engineering sponsored the charities renowned ‘Equinox Ball’ – a firm favourite in the social calendar. The Equinox Ball was created after a tragic loss where Paul lost both his parents to cancer within 2 weeks of each other in 2013. Both Paul and his wife Sarah turned their sadness into something positive and just one year later the inaugural Equinox Ball was held. They wanted to create an annual event that would raise money for local cancer charity ‘Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support’ and also ‘Cancer Research UK’. Both do fantastic work in supporting cancer patients and doing vital research to develop treatments, diagnosis and hopefully find a cure one day. Now in its 4th Year, the Equinox Ball has raised an astonishing £150k for both charities to date.
In just 5 years, over £250k has been raised which has allowed Doncaster Charity, Firefly to purchase 3 new vehicles to transport (free of charge) cancer patients and their families to Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield for life saving treatment bringing their total vehicle fleet to 6 – soon to be 7. The Firefly team is made up of volunteers from drivers, admin and trustees and every penny raised is for the benefit of the wider community.
Their donations to Cancer Research UK funded 6 children with neuroblastoma (a rare type of cancer mainly affecting children) to take part in an immunotherapy trial (for a kinder treatment) and further saw funds help research Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, again a cancer type more common in children. Cancer Research UK has made great progress helping more children and young people survive cancer than ever before but there’s still so much to do!
Now in 2019, Aarsleff Ground Engineering are sponsoring the entertainment at their upcoming ‘Bring your Breastie’ event – an all-female event with over 200 attendees gathering to raise funds and awareness of breast cancer. Fantastic raffles, a photo booth, live music and a disco will make for a perfect evening where everyone can talk openly about their own body, health and break down some of the barriers that many women experience when discussing such subjects.
Specifically, Aarsleff will be sponsoring the fireworks display at the Equinox ‘Bring your Breastie’ event on May 17th at Bawtry Hall in Doncaster. Sparks will fly as the ‘Aarsleff’ company name will be lit up for all to see – with each individual letter built on a framework using small specially designed fireworks called lances. Each lance is hand pressed and filled to burn for approximately sixty seconds! The fireworks display will be provided by Rave Fireworks; a professional firework display company based in Lincolnshire.
Aarsleff will also be holding three ‘dress down’ Fridays in their Head Office in Newark Nottinghamshire, where each employee donates £2 to dress “casually”.
Equinox receives phenomenal support in helping change the journey for cancer patients and Aarsleff Ground Engineering are delighted to support them in yet another successful fundraising year!
