Aarsleff Ground Engineering would like to say “congratulations” to our Ground Beam Manager David Watkins for gaining commendation in his FdA Business and Management University course. We spoke with David to find out a bit more…
Hi David. Congratulations on your achievement! When did you start the course?
It was a 2-year course that I originally enrolled onto in September 2015. Completion of the 2nd year enrollment was September 2016.
Who was your training provider?
The course was delivered at West Nottinghamshire College at their new £6.5million university centre but the actual degree was awarded through Birmingham City University.
What qualification did you receive?
I now have a foundation degree (FdA) in Business and Management with commendation. I hope to top-up this degree next year to a BA (HONS) in Business and Management and have had my application accepted.
What have you learnt from it?
I have learnt a number of different management techniques and management theory that are now being applied in my role as ground beam manager. Some of the modules included professional development, human resource management, operations management, strategic management and business financial management. These have helped reinforce the skills that I have developed throughout my career.
How did you study? Was this a part time course, online, evening classes?
I had to attend lectures on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the term timetable between 5PM – 9PM.
How has Aarsleff supported you with your studies?
Aarsleff part funded my degree (enrolled before joining Aarsleff) and have been really supportive in allowing me the time to attend the lectures. I have also been afforded access to all of the resources that I needed for my coursework and this has helped on Aarsleff projects with assignments such as work-based learning that focused on the accuracy of setting out of piles on site.
