Hemel Hempsted Sheet Piling

Sheet piling contractor Aarsleff Ground Engineering has been awarded the sheet piling work for the construction of new industrial space.

On behalf of client Prologis, main contractor Winvic Build Limited awarded Aarsleff Ground Engineering the sheet piling work to facilitate the construction of the town’s new industrial and distribution space. The units are the first to be constructed on the park, a 35-acre site that Prologis acquired in March this year. Prologis Park Hemel Hempstead, which is at Maylands Gateway, initiates development within the town’s new Enviro-tech Enterprise Zone. When complete, the park will provide up to 585,000 square feet of industrial and distribution space, together with a £2.5 million investment in local highway infrastructure. Winvic has been appointed by Prologis to construct the first phase of development, comprising five industrial / distribution buildings (two of which are subdivisible) totalling 390,000 sq ft, which are due to be completed in autumn 2018. Aarsleff Ground Engineering installed two sheet piled retaining walls comprising 78 No. steel section Az-12-770 sheet piles of 7m length. The sheet pile wall cannot be penetrated by tree roots and will protect the proposed buildings from growing vegetation.

Permanent retaining walls utilising sheet piles are used on schemes large and small, from simple projects to complex slope stabilisation solutions. They may be designed to both retain temporary excavations and to act as the permanent retaining structure, often in conjunction with the base slab which offers propping to the wall.
