Drilling and Grouting for The Avenue in Whitley Bay
Kier North Tyneside, a joint venture company (JVCo) between leading property, residential, construction and services group Kier and North Tyneside Council, recently awarded a ground stabilisation contract on The Avenue in Whitley Bay to Aarsleff Ground Engineering. The old Avenue hotel, on the corner of Park Avenue and Book Gardens, was demolished in 2015 and the council is moving forward with the construction of a 12-unit residential development, which forms part of the local authority’s multimillion-pound spend to regenerate the coastline and includes a series of improvements at sites including the Spanish City Dome and the promenades, which the site overlooks. As part of the enabling works, a series of grouting was undertaken to stabilise unrecorded workings in the shallow coal seams below the site. As part of the works and deploying its Boart Longyear rig, Aarsleff Ground Engineering drilled 90 No. 75mm dia. holes including the temporary casings and mixing and injecting 300T of 6/1 PFA/OCP Cement grout.
