Aarsleff Ground Engineering, were awarded the ground engineering contract for the Big W near Stockton on Tees. A&J were called upon when the road had cracked and moved towards the existing brook adjacent to the Big W near Stockton. A&J were contracted to provide support to the existing embankment.
Due to access constraints, we employed our T46 Mini Drill Rig to install the Soil Nails, up to 20 metres in length, through concrete blocks and rubble and into the underlying mudstones. In order to reduce the costs, and save our clients money, we used Pre-cast concrete bearing plates instead of galvanized steel plates; which would have been been prohibitively expensive.
